Happy New Year to you all!
Have the January blues set in yet?? Whilst the sun is still managing to poke its head through, and the temperatures are still way above the seasonal average, the rain clouds have been more prominent since the new year and currently the course is closed and is likely to be so over the coming weekend, so for all of you that may have games arranged it might be an idea to find an alternative venue, preferably sand or chalk based!
That said, we had a great run over the festive period, on Monday 28th December we hosted a Texas scramble event open to all eligible members , A full field of 100 players (25 teams) took to the course for a 9am shotgun start, on what was a very sunny and dare I say it warm morning. There were some very good scores out there and to have any chance of winning it was clear a nett sub 60 would be needed to take the victory. The results were as follows:
1st place: Andy Craig, Darren Field, Henry Semmance, Adam Roome (nett 57.8) Winning Oscar Jacobsen Sweaters
2nd place: Jamie Brind, Tom Kilford, Paul Fitchett, Dan Craig (nett 58.5) Winning Mizuno Wedges
3rd place: David Ahmed, Paul Goodliffe, Paul Sawyers, Ray Behan (nett 58.6) Winning FootJoy shirts
Nearest the pin 18th - Garry Tommy
Well played to all those that took part, congratulations to the winners and the ever so close runners up.
Following the success of the Texas Scramble, on Sunday 24th January, there is a shotgun stableford competition. Teams of 4, again open to all eligible members. It will be full handicap, stableford format, with stroke index 1-6 - 2 scores to count, index 7-12 - 3 scores to count and index 13-18 all scores to count. The field will be limited to 25 teams, there are only a few spaces left, and the list is on the board in the entrance hall. Fingers crossed for a dry spell!
Those of you who attended New Year's Eve, I'm sure you will agree what a great night it was, congratulations to the Social Committee for organising such a well-run event, the evening of course gave an opportunity for a caption competition, so here is the first one of 2016:
