Good afternoon one and all from a bright and sunny Langley Park, unfortunately this glorious Thursday follows a wet and windy Tuesday and Wednesday so the course remains closed, we are however hopeful that weather permitting some holes will be in play Friday and over the weekend (If I cross anymore fingers I may cut the circulation off !)
Keep an eye on the Club website for up to date information.
On Sunday we held one of the winter team events, a shotgun start with a field of 80 players (20 Teams) playing the format of stableford, full handicap, index 1-6 (2 scores to count) index 7-12 (3 scores to count) and index (14-18) all 4 scores to count. This made par equalling 108 points and any scores of 110 or better would surely have a chance.
Leading the way with 117 the team of Vice Captain Andy Craig, Darren Field, Adam Roome, and Henry Semmance winning ProQuip Lined sweaters, they were 5 points clear of Stuart Williams, Simon Hurry, Keith Stacey, and Alan Simmons who won Oscar Jacobson Shirts, the team of Adam Grainger, Rob Hill, Chris Gadd and Kevin Lynn sneaked into third on 112 with a better back nine, meaning fourth place went to Garry Pestell, Dave Percival, Nick Lewens, and Paul Taylor.
Nearest the pin prizes: 10th Bernie Blackford, 13th Steve Sharpe, and 18th Captain Peter Kilford.
Thank you for everyone who took part and making the day a great success on what otherwise might have been a dull January Sunday morning!
Burns Night
Saturday night at the Club marked Burns Night, a full house enjoyed an evening of bagpipes, haggis, Scottish dancing and a poem recited by George Collington which I have to say was very impressive considering it was 10 minutes long and he didn't read a word of it, all from memory!
The European Tour is now back in full swing, and this week playing in Qatar, and by the looks of it making it appear very easy, last week an impressive field played in Abu Dhabi, with Ricky Fowler earning his second victory on the European Tour holding off the challenge of Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth amongst others.
A great golfer he may be, although I'm not sure on his dress sense………
