Good afternoon all
Well, it looks like all of that finger crossing did the trick, although the January stableford was cancelled last weekend, a dry and breezy week has certainly helped dry the course up, to the point we actually had some people playing ! All 18 holes are back in play with only the 11th on a temporary green.
You always know when the sun comes out as things out of the ordinary happen…………
James Thompson actually took some range balls and went out to practice!! Any printable captions here please.
The ladies were making the most of the drier conditions as they played their February stableford. New member Penny Forrest led the way with 29 points in Division 1, she was 2 points clear of Julia Price on 27 with Angela Darby taking third place with 25.
In Division 2, Ros Cox finished in top spot with 26 points, Angeli Khanna was one point behind on 25 with Diana Roberts in third place.
Pete and I took on Tom Neavyn and Dave Paterson on Sunday morning, thinking the course was going to be closed, neither Pete or I mentally prepared ourselves for such a game, but as luck would have it, 15 holes were open so out we went, I'm sure proper matches are played over 18 holes but maybe I'm just thinking out loud…………
We were off to a decent start and were quickly 2up, before 6/4 (yes 2 shots!) on 7th and 5/4 on 8th took the match back to all square, we usually win 9, 10 and 11, but as these were closed we walked to the 12th. A 5/4 from team Neavyn and Paterson saw them take the lead, Pete's 3 at 13 (Morning Captain) secured a halve and my 5 at 14 squared the game once more. A halve at 15 in 4's, 16 in 3's and 17 in 4's and we stood on the 18th All square, but knowing Dave was getting a shot (only one on this hole) things took a turn for the worse when his rescue club sent the ball out over the 17th green, with more left to right shape than physics allows, narrow missing some players on the 12th fairway before turning at right angles, heading back towards the pin, landing on the downslope of the bunker and stopping dead, 12 feet from the pin, 2 putts and a 3/2 saw Tom and Dave win 1up OVER 15 HOLES !
Well played gents……..
