Good Afternoon
Sunshine, showers, and a little bit of hail for good measure this week - it's a good job spring is on its way!
Unfortunately, due to the overnight rain on Thursday, the course now has 5 holes closed, and this will remain so over the weekend, so regrettably the Stableford on Saturday has been cancelled.
After a dry spell last week, all the holes were open for The 5 Club Stableford, played off the yellow tees, it's always an interesting event and amazing just how many players score equally as well with 5 clubs as they do with 14 !! 25% of the field scored 30 points or more, considering how long the course was playing, that's pretty impressive.
Leading the way with 36 points was Dean White, he was one clear of Paul Taylor and Alan Peck, both on 35 with Paul having a better back 9. In the 2's club, there were only 3, which meant Paul Taylor, Micky Proffitt and David Soars received £48.66 on their Pro Shop accounts.
Ladies Results
32 Ladies turned out on Tuesday for the Fourball better ball event, the forecast looked ominous, and soon enough proved to be just that, as 28 of the 32 finished after 11 holes, which left hardy souls Sue Tester and Kelly Woolgar to take top spot on 33 points with Ros Cox and Lady Captain Maddie Simmons in 2nd place with 28.
Name this member who clearly seems to have the wrong idea about skiing!! He hasn't even got his skis, and is often seen wearing a sombrero!
Any guesses and captions here.
Pete and I took on David Brooks and Adam Roome last Sunday in The Captain/Pro Challenge and used the new handicap allowance for 4BBB for the first time, which meant giving 90% of the handicap difference instead of ¾ - that makes life harder!!
Pete and I made our customary 1st hole clangers and went 1 down, and stayed that way until a 3 hole winning streak took us 2up after 7, a lead which we held until consecutive losses at 11 & 12 saw the match levelled. A 3 was good enough for us to take the 13th and my 3 putt on 14 gave it straight back again, 15 played the longest I've ever seen it, as I hit driver, driver to finish 20 yards short, fortunately Dave was house hunting on the Avenue and Adam thought the hole had some sort of dogleg as he tacked his way from left to right, and my 4 was good enough for a one hole lead, a half a 16 and 1up with 2 to play, I managed to get my 2nd shot to 8 feet with a 3 wood after a mishit tee shot, and Dave was on the green for 3 nett 2, he putted 3 feet past, I missed from 8 feet and Dave's 3 foot slid past, game over and the quietest Adam had been since he opened his eyes that morning!
Building work is progressing well with the new swing studio, and we are still on course to be completed early April, details will be released shortly of how and when the facility will be available, watch this space...

What's new this week?
The newly awaited PING 'G' has arrived with Dragonfly technology, this relates to the thinner crown on top of the club, making less resistance and therefore greater clubhead speed, this is in 2 driver options SF Tec, (Heel weighted) and standard fairways, and hybrid and also the new G Crossover long iron replacement which looks like and iron but certainly the performance of a hybrid.
The G iron has also arrived, exceptionally long and as forgiving as any club on the market, don't just take my word for it, come and give them a try, as demos are available in everything.
