Good afternoon,
Its Open Championship week at Royal Troon, good luck to those of you who have entered the sweepstake behind the bar, I'm just watching the first round as I type, clear skies and little wind and the world's best are smashing the front 9 to pieces, the back 9 however seems to be a different story, it certainly will be very interesting with a bit of wind and rain ! Martin Kaymer, Lee Westwood and Jim Furyk are my picks, fingers crossed...
A busy week at the club, starting with The Elgood Cup on a windy Saturday, which certainly affected the scores, Leading the way in Division one was George Peniston with Nett 70, he beat Peter Sausse and Stuart Cullum into 2nd and 3rd respectively.
In Division 2 Paul Chandler took top spot also with nett 70, he was The Elgood Cup winner on countback, 2nd in div 2 was Angela Darby with nett 71 taking the top ladies spot, closely followed by Laurie Smith and Leslie Compton.
Sunday saw the club host The Chislehurst Salvers, a round robin interclub event with Knole Park, Royal Blackheath and Chislehurst which all clubs take turns in hosting. The draw was made that morning and Langley were drawn against Blackheath, in greensomes matchplay format, the match went right down to the final game on the final green with Peter Sausse holing out for a 2 from Peter Kilfords tee shot to take Langley into the final against Knole Park. The final was equally close which ended in 3 ½ - 3 ½ so a playoff was needed, Stuart Williams and Alfie Hickman starred for Langley playing the 18th repeatedly until a winner was found, after the hole was halved twice in 3's a 3 putt from Knole and a comfortable 2 putt from Langley saw The Salvers won by LPGC.
The Lady Captain's Fours took place on Friday with a great turnout of 48 players. The teams consist of 1 past lady captain, 2 other ladies and one gentleman.
1st Place with 92 points on countback Carole Gilbey, Ann Greatorex, Barbara Malangone and David Lennox
2nd Place with 92 points Cheryl Power, Priya Bhatia, Mari Brooks and Deepak Bhatia
3rd Place with 90 points Diana Roberts, Tina Gardner, Sharon Jagger and Dave Allen
