Good afternoon,
Lots to tell you all as another week flies by, on Saturday I hosted my Pro's Day, a fantastic turnout of 160 players playing a Texas Scramble format, in teams of 4 with 2 shotgun starts.
In the morning round the team of Kieran Vincent, Martin Aylott, Bernie Be Souza and John Cakebread set the afternoon players a target of nett 55.5, 12.5 under par, a target I thought would surely last all day, just shows how much I know as in the afternoon the team of Barry Nicholson, John Church, Ben Church, and Max Jordan piped them with 55.3 only for the last team of the day consisting of Mark Haffenden, Dave Percival, John Harrison and Andy Dickson to hand their scorecard in with an incredible nett 53.3, 14.7 under par!
On Sunday, the morning after Pro's day, Pete and I took on Vice-Captain Andy Craig and Darren Field, with Andy getting 12 shots and Daz, 16 shots!!! We were off to a rapid start, a win at the first, followed by another at 3 and one more at 5, I missed a short 4 footer to go 4up at 6, and then suddenly it all changed! Andy made 4/3 at 7, Pete and I both 3 putted 8 and we were back to 1up another short miss from yours truly at 9 saw us 1up at the turn, 3/2 and 4/3 from Daz suddenly we were one down as we crossed the road, my 4 at 12, 2 at 13 and 4 at 14 and Pete's 4/3 at 15 were only good enough for halves, Andy made 4/3 at 16 and we were dormie 2, he then proceeded to wander out of bounds, Daz, Pete and myself all in play, Daz then nobbled one along the floor, which proceeded to leap over the bunker short right and then chip in for a 3/2 and a 3/1 victory, our first proper defeat of the season. I'm not sure if we were dazed or Dazzed!
Also on Sunday we had not one but 2 holes in one, firstly Laurie Smith holed on the 5th with a driver to the toughest pin position in the world, Adrian Murray then holed a 9 iron at the 10th an hour later!
Vets League On Friday, the vets team played Sundridge Park at home, after losing the away fixture, revenge was required, the opening match went the way of the visitors, before Gordon Hayward and John Newton levelled with a fine 7/6 win, Richard Carter and Stuart Cullum halved before Peter Killick and Joe Rowlinson won 4/3 and Richard Truelove and Dave Peach on 1up to put the match out of Sundridge's reach.
Midweek Stroke
Paul Blake led the way in the mid-week stroke last Thursday with a fine nett 68, he was 2 clear of Alfie Hickman with nett 70 and Paul Hixon nett 71. There were 5 '2's which were worth £10 per 2 and has been added to your pro shop accounts.
The Watkins Cup and Cadet Trophy was also competed for last week, James Berry took top spot with Ed Soars close behind in 2nd place, in The Cadet Trophy Henry Molyneux led the way with Aiden Pushpangadan a very close 2nd. The Sarah German Shield and Trophy were played for this week, shield is a scratch event and trophy and handicap competition, both played over 36 holes. Ed Soars won both events and will be presented with the trophies on presentation night.
