Good afternoon all
It's amazing what a few dry weeks can do to the course, only 6 weeks ago it was a green oasis playing at its full length, now, the ball is running for fun, not that it seems to make a difference to the competition scores...
Last week saw the August stroke played, one of the largest fields of the year so far, in division one there was a four way tie for the top spot, Stuart Williams, Homi Mehta, James Smith and Jamie Proffitt all scoring nett 68, bizarrely the winner on countback was Stuart Williams, who was going along just nicely until a 9 appeared on his card playing the 15th, but a 3, 3, 2 finish just about made up for it - that's what you call bounce back ability!
A similar story in Division 2, with Chris Underwood, Andrew Buchanan, and Sam Giacopazzi all scoring nett 68, Chris Underwood took the spoils on count back, nice to see the lessons paying off Chris!
Those of you who scored a 2, you were not alone, you were amongst 17 others, this was worth £15.33 on your pro shop accounts.
The ladies were out in force on Tuesday competing for the past Captains trophy alongside their stableford event. Top scoring from Leslie Compton in Division 1 with 40 points, she was 4 points clear of Reay Newman on 36 points, with Barbara Malongone and Sarah Miller sharing 3rd place with 33 points.
In Division 2, not for the first time this year, Debbie Pestell finished out in front with 40 points, Esther Mehta took the runners up with 38 and Pauline Emburey in 3rd with 37 Division 3 winner was Maureen Lacy, edging out Ros Cox on countback with 37 points.
Perman Shield
This Sunday, the scratch team take on Sundridge Park away from home in the Perman Shield, morning foursomes followed by afternoon singles. 1st tee off time is 8.15, supporters will be most welcome in what is always a hotly contested match.
Still reeling from our defeat the previous week, not that we are sore losers or anything, Pete and I played Garry Appleford and Steve Butler, a pair who have been unbeaten in the past 2 years I have played them, fortunately Pete was on fine form, as his partner was anything but...... A close game that never got more than 1 or 2up in our favor, finally ended in a 2&1 victory for Pete and myself, certainly more Pete this week!
