I know how you all like my weather updates, well, just the 31 degrees today at Langley Park, certainly glad I have the new air con working!!


 

A busy week at the club as Saturday saw the Abbiss Cup played, a fourball betterball event played against par, which usually throws up some very low scores, and this year did just that, with Father and son combo Mike and James King scoring a fantastic +8, this won by 2 shots from Steve Fisher and Mark Allen +6 and 3rd on countback was Keith Stacey and Dean White.

There were 11 2's, these were worth £24.54 per PAIR

Sunday was the annual Club V The Ladies match, which ended in a very friendly 2-2 result, Club Captain Peter Kilford and President Peter Killick took on Lady Captain Maddie Simmons and Lady President Sarah Miller, the 2 Peters taking this match and a point on the board for the club.

Vice-Captain Andy Craig and John Norris played Joan Pollard and Ann James, and an easy win for the Ladies levelled the match.

Dave Allen and Richard Jones played Diana Roberts and Angela Darby in somewhat of a landslide win as the ladies took Dave and Richard apart with and devastating 8&7 win, apparently 10&8 was on the cards for quite some time until the ladies felt sorry for them……. 

In the final match Terry Morgan and Henry Semmance took on Carol Gilbey and Kiran Bowry, a win for the club saw a halved match and smiles all round (except Dave and Richard)

A large field for The Ladies on Tuesday as they played the Presidents Platter, in singles medal format. Lesley Compton took the top spot this week (again) with nett 70, she was 4 shots clear of Evelyn Collington, Ros Cox and Angela Darby all on nett 74.



 
Perman Shield 

Langley were drawn away to Sundridge Park last Sunday in the Perman Shield Trophy, a match on paper which was always going to be tough to win, fortunately golf isn't played on paper, and after being 2-2 at lunch after a dramatic turnaround in the foursomes as we were down in all 4 for most of the morning, we set off in the afternoon singles needing 4 points to progress into the semi-final, Max Jordan took the first match 4&3, Sundridge then took matches 2 and 3 before Conor Byers won match four 6&5, Mark Haffenden narrowly lost on the 18th meaning we needed 2 points from the remaining 3 games, Stuart Williams took his game 4&2 and Kent Osborn came from 2 down to win 4&3 and with Sundridge winning the final game a 6-6 draw meant we go through on the away rule! 

The semi-final is due to be played at home on 18th September V Wrotham Heath.
