Good afternoon everyone

What a weekend lies ahead of us, obviously the Ryder Cup will be near the top of every golf fans watch list, as come Friday Europe take on USA in the bi annual match, I'm sure as always it will be a thrilling encounter, fingers crossed it goes the way of the European underdogs again.... Now if that's not enough to wet your golf buds, Sunday sees incoming Langley Park Club Captain Andy Craig drive in, surely both events are a must and we hope to see lots of you here at the club to watch the drive in and the conclusion of the Ryder Cup afterwards.

Firstly I need to apologise for a slight technical hitch in last week's newsletter, for some unexplained reason 2/3rds of the edition disappeared on publication so here is the missing part!

Competition news

September Stroke

Last Sunday saw a large field play the September Stroke, with plenty of run on the ball and the greens in top shape scoring should be at its best, sure enough in the morning players John Newton returned a spectacular if not surprising nett 66 - must be his new Titleist AP1 irons doing the trick, he was then joined by Club Captain Peter Kilford who also scored nett 66 in his last medal round as captain also reducing his handicap from 11 at the start of the season to an impressive 7.5 - nice work Captain ! Andy Jani finished one shot further back with nett 67, this also included a hole in one at the 10th, holing a 5 iron - I understand Andy has left an open ended tab behind the bar for all those who missed him after play.....

In Division 2, Simon Smales scored a tremendous nett 64 for the lowest score of the day, apparently with a double digit 10 on his card - this is only a rumour, I will confirm! He was closely followed by Steve Rowe with a nett 65, his newly fitted Titleist driver that he won at captain's farewell night is clearly doing the trick!

The Rubob Cup

This was played last Sunday, 25th, 18 holes mixed Greensomes, with a draw for partners, leading the way with a quite amazing score of 49 points was Chris Gimson and Barbara Malongone, they were 8 points clear of David Ahmad and Josee Gray with Alan Pestell and Linda Foulstone in 3rd place also with 41 points.

Captain pro challenge

Pete and I played our final game together last Sunday, a last minute change of plan saw Daniel Craig and Tom Kilford take up the challenge, Dan receiving 20 shots and Tom just 25 shots, not sure we had given that many before, especially as both the challenges smashed it up the 1st fairway further than Pete and I, we should have known trouble was due!

We were 1up through 5 and looking good, that was until nett 3 at 6, 7, 8, 9, nett 2 at 10, and another nett 3 at 11, only one of those we managed a half a we crossed the road 4 down ! My 3 at 12 still only managed a half until we sneaked wins at 14, 15 and 16, and one down with 2 to play, Dan once again got up and down for a 4/3 much to the relief of his visibly shaking partner! A 2&1 defeat, only our second over 18 holes all season, the Craig family being involved in both!

Thanks to Pete for a very enjoyable year, great fun with plenty of laughs along the way...
