Good afternoon everyone

Welcome to this week's newsletter, our final scheduled update from the club for 2016. Our regular newsletter will return week commencing 2 January - but there's still plenty going on during the festive period.

Pros news

With events starting to wind down now there's not a huge amount to report, although both Vice/Assistant and Captain/Pro matches have been very well supported. Phil's matches have had a positive start, chalking up several wins on the board, but have been a little derailed of late as Paul Taylor and Gary Westbrook ended Nick and Phil's unbeaten streak, then Niall Higgins and Sam Giacopazzi did the same the following week, don't worry Phil, Terry will be back soon !

Andy and I took up the Challenge from Stuart Williams and Alfie Hickman last Sunday, with Alfie in confident mode the pair opted for no shots.....we were not going to argue, as long as Andy got his 12, we were happy! We took an early lead with wins at 1&3, Stuart pulled one back at 5 before my 3 at 7 and Andy's 4/3 at 8 saw us 3 up, Alfie scrapped a 3 at 9 and we turned 2up, as we stood on 12 Andy let fly monster drive (with his 3 wood) which Alfie struggled to reach, a fine second shot and a 4/3 took us back to 3up, another rocket 3 wood from The Captain up 14 once again went 19 yards (we paced it) past Alfie, but we could only manage halves at both 14 & 15 but a 4 at 16 was good enough to shake hands.

Rules section

A rules question has been asked a couple of times recently, about what happens if your ball comes to rest on one of the bridges over a water hazard. Here is the answer.

The section of a bridge over a water hazard that is within the boundary of the hazard e.g. yellow posts or yellow lines, is actually part of the hazard. Thus if your ball comes to rest on a bridge over a hazard your first option is to play it as it lies (beware slippy conditions at this time of year). You may ground your club even though it is in the hazard.

Should you choose not to play it you may take the normal water hazard relief in accordance with rule 26, for the addition of one stroke.
