Greetings from Paul Sherman
Langley Park Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Good afternoon all

Another busy week at Langley Park, with matches, the Open day, Ladies 36 hole championship, and even a junior hole in one!

The Langley Park Open Day

As most of you are aware, the club council organised an 'Open Day' aimed at recruiting new members and also raising the profile of Langley Park Golf Club to the local neighbourhood. Invitations were distributed locally inviting golfers to a courtesy round of golf accompanied by a member followed by a BBQ which was also extended to their families.

The club received over 100 responses, with eventually 67 players playing golf, this resulted in applications being received for 9x Full members, 5x 6day members, 1x 5day member, and 4x social members, in all these new members will generated over £30,000 of membership income, so a job well done!

Ladies Goodhart Bowl and Nancy Robertson Scratch Tray

On a day of mixed weather, with the morning conditions being particularly unpleasant, the ladies played a 36 hole scratch (Nancy Robertson) and handicap (Goodhart) competition.

Tereza won the scratch event with 82/86 - 168 by four shots from Sarah Miller 172. Monica Whelan won the Goodhart Bowl with nett scores of 74/85 by one from Priya Bhaita, Mari Brooks and Tereza Russo.

Hole in One!

Congratulations to Ed Soars who managed a hole in one at the 10th hole during a junior match against Dartford, Ed holed a 5 iron from the white tees using a Titliest NXT Tour, apparently this is not his first either, he had one at the 18th when he was 10 years old! We might have to make the holes smaller...... All members who achieve a hole in one are presented with a bottle of scotch by the club, on this occasion it has been swapped for the less alcoholic ProV1 ball instead!

Geoff and I took on the task of playing John Williams and James Parrish last Sunday in a very close game, Geoff and I got off to a flying start, winning 2&3, before losing 4,5,7 & 10 to nett birdies with John holing twice from 40+ feet !

We stood on the 15th tee 2 down, I managed a 3 at 15 and James then hit his tee shot at 16 along West Wickham High St, and John capitulated from 2 feet to stand all square on 17, James repeated his previous tee shot and John disappeared up the left of 17 for several shots and we stood on the 18th one up!

Geoff finished left edge, I was in the left trap, both James and John found their swings again and both hit to 4 feet, with James making a 2 to finish all square.

Captain's Day

This Sunday is Captain's Day, those of you wishing to play, there is still a few spots remaining, this is followed by BBQ commencing at 2pm, which all members are invited to, tickets are £5 per person and the sign up sheet is in the main hallway.

Caption Competition

Last week's picture was this:

Which, for some reason I had many replies, some unfortunately are not repeatable!!!

Others were:

  • 'And the winner of the fatty cup is....'
  • 'Bob Hungate is saying, "I thought his a a 4 ball, who's eaten my partner?"'
  • 'Who ate all the caddies?'
  • 'Maybe the damage on the 3rd green was footprints?!'
  • 'Golfers that get dressed in the dark, Britains got tummies'.

But the winner is Peter Kilford with:

'Congratulations to LPGC latest winners who came out on top in the Kent Heavyweight Russian Doll Competition!'

Peter wins a sleeve of the new Callaway Supersoft balls.

How technology helps youstrike a longer ball

Picture that long par 3 that requires a sweetly struck 5-iron. It's an easier hole with a 7-iron in your hands, right? Brands work hard to make our golf more enjoyable; and distance gains are always welcomed...

Technology is one thing, but sometimes it pays to have someone look over your swing. Don't hesitate to get in touch with us for some swing advice.
