Good Afternoon everyone
Can someone please turn the heating on?
The sun may be shining, but it certainly hasn't been a very warm week! That being said, it's been very dry, making the course play shorter than it normally would this time of year. This certainly seems to be the case with scoring in recent competitions being quite special.
The Goodhart Cup
Played on Saturday, The Goodhart Cup produced some fantastic scoring. Setting the pace early in the day, surprisingly, was Captain Andy Craig. I say surprisingly as his two matchplay games he had played earlier in the week were both over by the 13th; one of which didn't cross the road and he was on the receiving end both times! Anyway I digress, Andy returned a fine nett 66 joined by Alan Brooks; it was looking like a day of surprises! They were then also joined my new member Mason Essam who shot a gross 67 nett 66. Great golf. Dave Rouse produced what looked like the round of the day with a fantastic nett 64, only to see Jack O Hare shoot a nett 63 in the afternoon! Jack can only win the junior prize, so Dave Rouse is the Goodhart Cup Champion. Well played Dave. All that practice is paying off.
Kent Vets Knockout
The LPGC Vets played their first Kent Vets knockout match against Hythe Imperial on Wednesday. Richard Carter and Stuart Cullum set the pace with a fine 5&4 victory while Richard Truelove and new recruit, Malcolm Watson, sailed to a 7&6 win. Not to be out done, Les Clarke and George Perry also won 5&4 for a very convincing 3-0 win. On to the next round.
Ladies Results
Last Tuesday, the ladies played in the Lonnen qualifier. A tricky day for scoring saw Kelly Woolgar take the winning spot with a nett 74, closely followed by Lady Captain Angela Darby and Diana Roberts on nett 75. Apologies for missing these results from last week's issue.
This week, the Ladies section played The Ladies England Golf Trust Stableford. Leading the way in Division one was Kim Wildman with 35 points with Josee Gray and Lesley Compton close behind on 34 points. Division 2 saw Janice Pottage shoot the score of the day with 42 points, 2 clear of Ros Cox on 40. Alision Dunkley was the division 3 winner on 37 points with Claudia Coobs a further 4 points back. Fantastic scoring ladies!
Janice asked me last week if re-gripping her clubs would make any difference. She has since won her match at Tudor Park and now scored 42 points in the stableford. Clearly the answer is yes! Like Janice, if you would like to re-grip your clubs, pop in the shop the next time you're at the golf club.
Junior Results
In the junior strokeplay on Sunday, all of his practise has obviously paid off as Oscar Beaman-Browne shot a fantastic nett 64, beating the inform Jack O Hare and Holly Gray by 5 shots. Oscar now sees his handicap reduced to 22; Jack is now into category 1, playing off 5; and Holly has come down to 34. Well-played everyone.
Capt/Pro Vs Dave & Dave
Andy and I played Dave Brooks and Dave Allen on Sunday morning. With both Daves getting several shots, it was set for a very interesting game.
The start of the match was very tight, but we eventually sneaked into a one hole lead. Wins at 7 and 8 saw us 3 up and looking comfortable before shots at 10 and 11 put us straight back to 1 up as we crossed the road. Halves at 12, 13, a quite amazing half at 14 - Dave Allen's tee shot didn't get past the Ladies tee marker - and another half at 15, meant we remained 1 up after 15. Andy's 4 nett 3 at 16 and my 4 at 17 were enough to end the contest 2&1.
Thank you to the two Daves for a very enjoyable game.
