Good afternoon everyone,
A week of sunshine and showers continues just without the sunshine, fingers crossed for a bit more rain to get the grass growing, and a few degrees warmer wouldn't hurt either!!
Last weekend saw the first of the May bank holidays, it was a very busy weekend all round, with mostly dry sunny days that brought a few of the fair weather golfers out that we hadn't seen for a while, which resulted in a good turnout for the Bank Holiday roll up, David Ahmad led the way, winning on countback with 37 points from Paul Lockstone and David Brooks.
The Ladies played The Lockitt Cup on Tuesday in a medal competition. The tricky conditions didn't phase Tina Gardner who shot a nett 73 to win by one shot from Lita Landi, with Tereza Russo a further 2 shots back on nett 76.
The Vets played their first Kent Vets league match in a tough away fixture at West Kent, but a fine team performance with wins from S Cullum & R Truelove, P Battle & R Carter, P Killick & D Peach and M Watson & S Sharpe saw LPGC win the match 4.5 to 1.5, great start gents, keep it up!
Andy and I played Steve Butler and Garry Appleford in the Captain/Pro Challenge on Sunday in a tough looking match.
We lost the first and then the 3rd to a Butler birdie, my birdie at 4, Andy's at 5 and my birdie at 6 saw us turn it round to a 1 up lead. Nett birdies at 7 & 8, Steve's birdie at 9 was cancelled out by mine at 10 with a very boring half in pars on 11 saw us cross the road 1 up.
We then halved 12, 13, 14, and 15 before Andy made 4/3 at 16 to make it dormie, Garry's 3/2 at 17 took the match to the last which we managed to halve and sneak a 1up win in a game with 9 gross birdies and 5 nett birdies - tough school!
Williams Cup
Andy and I also played in the Williams cup at Littlestone on Tuesday which is a foursome captain/pro event, Peter Kilford and I won the event last year so a title defense would be a tough act to follow.
However after scoring 22 points on the outward 9 and 19 points coming home, we managed to get round in gross +1 and 41 points, to beat clubhouse leaders Royal Mid Surrey into 2nd place.
