Good afternoon
Well, you know what they say, it never rains, it pours! And it has done that the past couple of days. Fortunately it's the right type of warm rain and the grass is growing at a fast rate of knots. We are midway through a very busy month at the club with events happening on a daily basis and this week has been no different.
May Strokeplay
In the May Strokeplay last Sunday, the low scoring trend continued as Stuart Cullum led the way in division one with nett 66. Stuart was one clear of a group on nett 67, including Geoff Dicken, Ross Mackie, Richard Carter, Dominic D'Inverno and Neil Lewens. The real low scores were recorded in Division 2 as Andrew Dixon recorded a magnificent nett 61, followed by Bernie Fisher and Paul Coley on nett 65 and George Collington and Danel Craig on nett 66. Some handicaps have most certainly been reduced!
Spring Meeting
The ladies played their Spring Meeting on Tuesday, playing an 18 hole medal in the morning followed by a 9 hole foursomes in the afternoon.
In the morning there were both scratch and handicap prizes up for grabs. In the scratch, Tereza Russo and Sarah Miller tied on 81, with Tereza coming out on top. In the handicap divisions, Jane Underwood led division 1 with nett 73, beating Sue Williams and Chitra Prashar on countback. Roz Galley took top spot in division 2 with nett 74, beating Maggie Page into 2nd and Mari Brooks into 3rd. 74 was the best score in division 3 with Denise Reid leading the way from Vicky Mitchell and Catherine Loddo.
Vets News
The Vets team played their second match of the season at home to Sundridge Park, always a tough match and hotly contested, unfortunately this years result went the way of the away side 3.5 - 2.5 with LPGC points coming from S Cullum/J Rowlinson, M Watson/S Sharpe with L Clarke/G Perry recording a half.
Interclub Knockouts
The interclub knockout matches are in full swing, although not for long at the current rate. Dave Paterson's team lost last week at West Ken, but Dave Allen's team had a great win at Cherry Lodge and they progress to the next round. This week Dave Brooks' team had a home draw at Langley but after losing the 1st 4 matches, only a 4 - 4 result was possible which happened to be the final result but also meant the team lost on the away goals rule!
John Sowdens' and Bernie De Souza's teams both play this week. Fingers crossed for good results so we can cheer them on to the later rounds.
Capt & Pro Vs Ed & Patrick
Andy and I played Ed and Patrick McCoy last Sunday. There were plenty of shots on offer for the opponents and with my partner having his handicap slashed due to recent competition results, we felt we could be up against it.
We were off to a good start, partly due to our steady play but more due to Ed's and Patrick's generous putting mishaps! We were soon into a healthy lead which we then doubled after 10 as Ed's 3 putt from 15 feet took us 2 up. But then Patrick put a run together of 4/3, 4/3, 3, and all of a sudden we were one down. Ed's 4/3 at 14, Patrick's 4/3 at 15 and 16 saw the contest stop with a 3&2 victory and our first defeat of the year.
