Good Afternoon Guys
The weekend's here again and I hope you've had a good week! It's been great to see the sun shine at last and hopefully it's here to stay for a while! We've had a busy week at the club so plenty to tell you about.
The Club Shield and Founders Cup
The first 36 hole event of the season with the top 16 in the shield qualifying for the Club Championship. Max Jordan led the field at the halfway stage in the shield after a morning round of 71. He was 1 ahead of Alfie Hickman and 2 ahead of Kent Osborn, but a fine round of 67 in the afternoon saw him destroy the rest of the field and win by a huge 9 shots as Kent returned a 74 and Alfie a 75 to finish 2nd and 3rd respectively.
In the Founders Cup, the morning round lead was taken by Dan Butler with nett 66, one ahead of Julian Wisdom, with Gordon Mackie and David Ahmad a further shot back with 68. A solid afternoon round of 69 was good enough for Dan to take the trophy with a 135 total, one ahead of David who recorded another 68, and Alan Pestell crept in 3rd with an afternoon round of 68 for 139.
Ladies Stableford
Lots of Ladies were out this Tuesday in the monthly stableford with 36 points being a popular score. Leading division one was lady captain Angela Darby with 36 points, beating Kelly Woolgar in to 2nd with 35 and Josee Gray a further point back on 34. Division 2 honours went to Janice Pottage with 36 points, beating Debbie Pestell on countback also with 36 points. Mary Forrest was a further 3 points back in 3rd place. Division 3 was won by Vicky Mitchell with 34 points, one ahead of Maureen Lacey with Carol Helm in 3rd with 30 points.
Wilding Cup
The Wilding Cup, managed by John Sowden, played Dartford on Monday. A strong side was put out for the home club as every LPGC player returned either a point or half a point as the team trounced Dartford 6.5 -1.5. Big wins came from Peter Kilford, 6&5 and Phil McBrown and Adam Roome, 5&4.
Gray Cup
Bernie De Souza's Gray Cup team took to the course on Tuesday against Mid Kent, hoping to keep the LPGC flag flying. Paul Taylor came up against stiff opposition (according to him) and went down 5&4 but Kevin Tidman and Terry Morgan steadied the ship with impressive wins. Russ Thompson's opposition was also too much to handle before the tail end sealed victory as Paul Goodliffe won 7&6, Paul Chadler won 5&4, Bernie de Souza won 5&4 and John Webb claimed a massive 8&7 win for a fine 6-2 victory.
Junior Kent Foursomes
The Junior team were drawn away at West Kent in the Kent foursomes, a scratch event played over the full 18 holes.
The team were also kitted out in their new sponsored outfits courtesy of Phil McBrown. This was clearly a lucky kit as the team of Sam Beadle, Jack Hooper, Will Day and Jack O Hare came home with a massive 9 up winning margin.
Langley Park Pro Am
Last Friday saw the club Pro Am take place with great support from members, guests and Professionals as 26 teams took part in a shotgun start event playing best 2 scores from 4 medal format with the professional also competing in an individual event.
We had a strong field of professionals which included 7 former European tour and Seniors tour players. Leading the way with a fantastic 64 (-5) was Gary Evans, who finished runner open in The Open in 2002.
But this was Gary's first time at Langley Park - not bad for playing it blind - as he finished 3 shots ahead of Adam Clough (Pedham) on 67, Richard Wallis (Canterbury) took 3rd spot with 68 with yours truly and Scot Stevens on 69.
In the team event the LPGC team of Adam Grainger, Chris Gadd, Robbie Ward and pro Benn Barham took the top spot with -11. They were one ahead of Chris Gimson, Martin Watson, Dave Grannell and West Kent Professional Simon Illife, with the team of John Sowden, Ian Russell, Steve Sharpe and Professional Richard Wallis in 3rd.
Many thanks to Titleist, FootJoy, Callaway, and Hugo Boss for their support for providing the prizes and also a special mention to Fred Foster who very kindly supplied the bananas!
Again thank you to all those who took part.
