Good afternoon all,

As we approach the 3rd week of June the club is at its busiest, hopefully lots of you are getting to the course and enjoying the good playing conditions. The US Open is fast approaching, anyone got any tips as mine are always rubbish!

Competition news

Mens Comp Results
Captain's Day

On Saturday 3rd June Langley Park hosted captain's day and it is fair to say it was a great day had by all. There were some very good scores in, with the best being a three way tie on 38 point, which ended up having to be settled by a play off on the 18th.

ChrisThe play off was made up of Sam Beadle, Mark Haffenden and Chris Gimson. Due to Mark playing off +1, in stableford rules he has to have a point deducted on stroke index 18, which unfortunately for him was the play-off hole, the 18th. Sam made a 5, Chris made a 4 for 1 and Mark made a 3 for 1, so back to the tee they went, it was a shoot-out between Mark and Chris. Chris made another 4 with Mark making another 3 so back to the tee they went again. On the third play-off hole, both fired straight at the flag both inside 8 feet.. Chris was up first and holed the birdie putt. That was that. All in all, it was a great a day hosted by Andy with a drinks tent and BBQ after play.

The results are as follows:
1) Chris Gimson 38 pts, 2) Mark Haffenden 38 pts, 3) Sam Beadle 38 pts and 4) Kevin Walder 37 pts

Captains Greensomes

On Sunday 4th June the club held the Captains Greensomes. This event was played off the ladies card. Some good scores out there in testy breezy conditions, with the previous day's winner Chris Gimson and Leslie Compton leading all the way until the very last group, Paul and Barbara Malongone came in with 47 points!

The results are as follows:
1) Paul and Barbara Malangone 47 pts and 2) Chris Gimson and Leslie Compton 44 points

Vets League

Friday 2nd June the Langley Park vets team hosted West Kent golf club for the 4th event of the year. Having a mixed bag so far this year, the vets came through with a very convincing win by some big margins. In the 6 matches that went out there were 0 losses. 4 wins and 2 halves which saw Langley win 5-1 on the day. Another good performance.

Junior Results

On Thursday 1st June the juniors took part in the 36 holes Sarah German shield and the Sarah German trophy. The Shield is a scratch event and the trophy is a handicap event.

The results were as follows:
Sarah German Shield: 1) Jack Hooper, 2) Ed Soars and 3) Sam Beadle
Sarah German Trophy: 1) Finlay Irvine, 2) Ed Soars and 3) Oscar Beaman Browne

Ladies cancellation
Ladies Section

On Tuesday 6th June the ladies were due to play in a 36 hole Goodhart bowl/Scratch Tray.

The heavy rain and high winds that brought a tree down on the 15th meant that the competition was cancelled due to the course having to be closed.

Captain/Pro

The day after Captain's day, Andy and I played Alan Simmons and Simon Hurry in a very closely fought match. After a few adventurous up and downs on the outward 9 by myself , we were clinging on to a 1 down deficit, as we crossed the road. Andy's 4/3 at 12 squared the match and after a few halves we stood on 16 all square. With both Simon and Alan receiving shots, my second shot pitched into the flagstick and dropped 3 feet from the pin, much to Alan's delight....not. Simon hit the very front of the green in 2/1 and putted up just inside my marker. I holed...just and Simon missed so we took a 1up lead to 17, and after halving the last 2 holes we came out narrow victors, 1up!
