George rose to the occasion
As the sun rose on Saturday morning, all looked to be in order for a sunny day for the Elgood Cup, which for the morning round was certainly the case as George Perry returned a fine nett 65, closely followed by Dan Butler on 66 with Toby Mortimer and Peter Battle on 68.
As the afternoon tee times took to the course, they were, unfortunately, not so lucky with the weather as the sky blackened, and a rather damp afternoon was had, shortly followed with several cracks of thunder and lightning which forced play to be suspended due to unsafe conditions and several greens flooding. Fortunately the weather blew over and, after clearing water off 10 and 11, play restarted for those who hadn’t gone home, but none of those who finished could catch George, although Mason Essam recorded a fine gross 69 in the worst of the conditions! |
