Good Afternoon all

It’s been a mixed bag this week with sunshine, showers and now very windy conditions, let’s hope it calms down for the weekend, as this Saturday is Pro’s day!

Pro’s Day

A Texas Scramble event, with a shotgun start at either 8.30 or 1.30, I still have a few spaces for single players who are looking to join a team or there are a few spaces left for teams of 4 if you somehow have managed to forget!

It’s a medal format with 10% of your teams combined handicap to count, a minimum of 4 drives per player must be used, and the ball must be dropped and not placed at all times except when on the putting green.

A complimentary half way house will be in operation, those of you who are lucky enough will get to sample ‘mums’ sausage rolls and plenty of liquid refreshment, if all goes according to plan, the BBQ will fire up around 5pm with the prizing giving at roughly 5.30pm. BBQ tickets will be available on the day at the cost of £10 per person, family and friends are most welcome to attend.

There will also be a grand draw for a set of Titleist Irons, this will take place at the prize giving, for all those of you who haven’t yet bought a ticket, they are £5 each and are available in the pro shop.

Princes 27 hole Pro-am

Andy Craig and I played at Princes on Monday, the format was 9 holes on the shore (foursomes), 9 hole on the Dunes (greensomes) and 9 holes betterball on the Himilayas. Our foursomes got off to a bit of a rocky start as a few of Andy’s iron shots went a little further right than hoped, but we scrambled well to recover and after a couple of well holed 10 footers from the Captain we shot a nett 35 (-1). Greensomes, we birdied the last for nett 36 (level) and our betterball score around the Himilayas was also 35 (level) for a total of 106 -1, this was 4 shots behind our playing partners and eventual winners Dave Osborn and Wes Davies from West Hill with 102 (-5).

All in all a thoroughly enjoyable day, playing a different format to usual, on a great links course, Thank you Captain!

Life begins at 50

If you ever needed hope that life keeps on getting better then look no further than Bernhard Langer. During his ‘youthful years’ the magnificent German played on 10 Ryder Cup teams and won a mind-boggling 42 times on the European Tour, the second most of all-time, but it’s what he’s done since turning 50 that impresses us the most.

Courtesy of his three-shot victory at the weekend’s Senior Open Championship, the 59-year-old has now won a record 10 senior majors, one more than fellow Hall-of-Famer Gary Player. It's been one remarkable season for Langer too, having claimed three of these majors in 2017 alone!

So if that doesn’t get you excited for what’s to come then nothing will. We can’t promise that we’ll turn you into a superstar overnight but come and talk to the team if you’re interested in getting better…It's never too late.
