Match report This is a hard one to type – Andy and I played John Newton and John Sowden on Wednesday afternoon, Mr Sowden had been complaining of a poorly shoulder and wasn’t too sure if he would be able to play, but bless him he soldiered on through the pain barrier. We had a friendly start with a couple of halves and looked to be taking the lead as Andy was on the 3rd green in 2/1, John S was long in 3 and John N’s ball was in his pocket. John S chipped in for a 4/3 and a halve, he then proceeded to hole from 40 feet at the 4th for another 4/3 to go 1up, the 5th was halved in 3, and 6th in 4, my 3 at 7 was enough to square the game but not for long as John N birdied 8. A halve at 9 to turn 1 down, John S’s 3/2 took them 2up at 10, my 3 at 11 was only good enough to halve with John N who again rattled in a birdie so we crossed the road 2 down. Halves at 12 and 13 in pars, John S’s 5/4 looked to be good enough to halve 14 but Andy made 4/3, a halve at 15 but an outrageous Sowden up and down for a 4/3 at 16 took the match to dormie. 17 looked to be going our way until JS once again made a tremendous up and down from short of the bunker to win the match 3&1. The mental scars will take a while to heal! |
