The Presidents Platter and Scratch Bowl Last weekend, saw the second 36 hole event of the calendar played, The Presidents Platter and Scratch Bowl, a large field of 72 players turned out to play. In the Platter, the surprise (nobody was more surprised than him) first round leader was James Thompson, his nett 65 led Martin Aylott by one. Simon Williams was close behind with 68, Mark Haffenden 69 and Allen Simmons and Sam Beadle 6 back on 71. The afternoon round took its toll on our leader as he slipped to a 75 but a 140 total would take some beating. Martin Aylott returned a 73 to take the lead by one shot only to be beaten on count back by Sam Beadle with an afternoon round of 68. In the scratch Bowl, there was a clear morning leader as Mark Haffenden’s score of 68 was 5 clear of Alfie Hickman and James Thompson. Conor Byers, and Sam Beadle were on 75 and Max Jordan 8 back on 76. The gap became smaller in the afternoon as Mark struggled to a 74, Max returned a 69 to get within 3 shots of the lead. Alfie could only manage another 73 for a 146 total, meaning Mark took the Scratch Bowl with a 142 total.
