Captain & Pro Andy and I played our penultimate Captain/Pro match against Chris Gimson and Steve (10 out of 10) Sharpe, this was played the morning after Captains Farewell night and there were one or two heavy heads floating around. Steve (never been beaten in the vets league) Sharpe's head seemed a lot heavier than everyone else's! We were off to an unusual fast start as my 4 at the 1st and 3 at the 2nd saw us 2 up, Chris's 4/3 got one back at the 3rd as we waited for the Vets superstar to arrive, Andy's 3 at the 5th restored our lead. Halves at 7, 8 and 9 followed, eventually Sharpie dragged his chin off the floor to hit a 7 wood on the green at the 10th and win the hole with a 3/2 and we crossed the road 1up. Andy's 2 at 13 restored our 2up lead, halves at 14 and 15 followed and with Sharpie the only one to receive a shot at 16, it looked like it may go the distance. Fortunately he tacked his way down the hole via trees on the right and could only manage a 6/5, Chris had tree trouble on the left so our 4 was good enough to end the contest, and if it had been a boxing match the ref would have stopped Sharpie much earlier!
The Southern Professional Championship I played in The Southern Professional Championship at Kings Hill last week, my new AP3 irons arrived so decided to put them straight in the bag and play with them, in hindsight, maybe a little wreck less! I shot 70-67(-7) for a share of 8th place after 36 holes, and a 73 in the final round to drop back to 16th, the new clubs are going to take a bit of getting used to as they go about 15 yards further than my AP2's!
