Good afternoon folks,
We are fast approaching the best major Championship of the the season, this time next week it will be well underway, who is your money on?
In this weeks' issue there is an usual visitor to the shop, the medal winners bowl results, Vets team getting back on track, an entertaining day at Prince's, and a big clearance on 2 major brands.
Medal winners Bowl
Last weekend saw all the medal winners fight it out in a 36 hole competition. After the morning round Barry Byers and Garry Appleford shared the halfway lead with nett 72 by 2 shots from Peter Battle, Nick Lewens and 3 shots from Gordon Hayward.
In the afternoon round fatigue started to take its toll and as the morning leaders faded Nathan Brown had a dramatic change in form with nett 84 AM and a nett 67 PM, Stuart Cullum similarly nett 79 AM and nett 70 PM, but in the end of the day consistency prevailed with Gordon Hayward shooting nett 75 and nett 73 to beat Stuart by one
The Grey Cup
Langley Park are drawn at home to Mid Kent in the Semi Final of this event, which is being played on Thursday 17th July at 2.15.
All support will be most welcome.
Vets League
After a defeat against Royal Blackheath (which we don't talk about), Langley Park hosted Chislehurst in the Kent Vets League. A fine performance by John Newton and the in-form Gordon Hayward recording the first point on the board with a 9&8 win, the next two matches went to the opposition, Bill Mews and Ted Sutcliffe levelled the scores with a 4&3 victory, Chislehurst took the next match to leave Steve Sharp and Paul Hixton needing to win the last game to force a halved match, they managed to win the last hole to take a 2Up victory and a tied match at 3-3.
This week I played in the Prince's 27 hole pro am with Vice Captain Elect Peter Kilford, the format of the day is 9 holes greensomes on the Dunes, 9 Holes betterball on the Himalayas and 9 holes foursome on the Shore - should be interesting!
We got off to a good start in the greensomes and finished the 9 holes in -1, the fourball saw us (well me, as Pete took in the views and wildlife) shoot -3 to go in for lunch at -4, 2 shots behind home pairing of Anthony Tarchetti and Ronan McGuirk, the foursomes beckoned!
All was going nicely as we played the first 5 in -1, we then proceeded to drop 3 shots in the last four holes to finish on -2 for the tournament and a share of 6th place, a mention to Peter Battle who playing with Seniors Tour Professional Mark Belsham shot a very good score of -5 for a share of 3rd place.
