Greetings from Paul Sherman
Langley Park Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Good afternoon all

Another scorcher of a week, and with the Open Championship in full flow at Royal Liverpool it should be a very interesting weekend.

In this weeks' issue, a great week for Langley Juniors, fantastic scoring in the July Stroke/Elgood Cup, a great win for the Scratch team, and another Captain/Pro capitulation !

The July Stroke and Elgood Cup

A mixed field of both men and women competed for the Elgood Cup. With low scoring in both divisions, Garry Williamson came out on top with a fantastic 80/66 closely followed by Juliett Underwood (using her newly purchased G25 fairway wood) 82/68 and Alan Pestell 77/68. In division 2 Sarah Graff beat the boys on countback with 87/68 from J Benson 89/68 and Sean Coulter 84/69.

Midweek Stroke

Tom Jordan kept up his steady run of form with a gross and nett 70 to beat Ray Packham by 2 and brother Max by 3.

South East Boys Junior Championship

Langley Park had a strong representation in the South East Boys Championship, with four of our juniors competing at Moor Park Golf Club.

After the morning round Max Jordan 72 and George Mullins 72 lay one shot behind tournament leader Todd Clements (Braintree).

Max played consistently in the afternoon similar to his morning score to shoot 73, meanwhile George shot a fantastic 68 to lead in the clubhouse with -4, this proved too strong for the other competitors and George won by 3 shots, Max's consistency earned him a share of 4th place, Conor Byers finished 26th, Tom Jordan 38th and Fraser Mackie 67th.

Yours truly won the very same trophy in 1988 at Sunningdale, my hair wasn't quite so big!

Well played George....

Ladies July Stableford/Ruth Jones Trophy

Another event of low scoring, with Chitra Prashar returning the best score of the day with 38 points winning division 1 by 5 points from Priya Bhatia. In Division 2 Kate Hayward led the way with 34 points to win by 2 from Alieen Kershaw and Alexandra Johnson.

With Geoff still out with back problems, former Captain Peter Battle was his replacement against Bob Hungate and James 'bulletproof' Thompson.

We were off to a steady start with a few early wins to cross the road 2 up, wins at 12 & 13 saw us 4 up with 5 to play. James won 14 with a birdie, 15 with a nett birdie, Bob won 16 with a nett birdie, all of a sudden we were back to one. Bob decided that the tee shot at 17 was too difficult and James's ball reappeared from out of bounds with Peter and I in the fairway, we both missed the green left, James scrambled a nett four to square the match on the 18th again! We halved the last in 3's for a most unfriendly squared match........bulletproof!

Summer Scratch League

The match was played away at West Kent, with Langley undefeated so far this season, wins for Kent Osborn/Ross Mackie, Ben Church/Nathan Brown, Matt Hervey/Conor Byers, Tom Jordan and Stuart Williams saw Langley maintain their undefeated record 5 matches to 2.

Perman Shield

This is being played on Saturday 19th July at Knole Park, 36 holes foursomes and singles, all support will be most welcome.

Callaway Mack Daddy 2 Tour Grind wedges

Opening the face of your wedge adds loft, so is a great option when you need quick height. But take your grip after you’ve opened the face, not before… and use a wedge like Callaway’s Mack Daddy 2 Tour Grind. The sole shape lets you open the face while keeping the leading edge tight to the turf.
