Recently, you may have seen a few requests in our weekly emails asking you to create your golfing profile or confirm your email address for GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) purposes.

As you might be aware, GDPR is new legislation coming into effect at the end of May, so we are taking the opportunity now to update your details. Not only does this give us the chance to confirm that we have your correct information, but it also provides us with the ability to personalise your weekly emails to suit your golfing preferences. Competition news

Team Stableford – Masters Sunday

Last week saw The Masters take place, the event at Augusta was clearly overshadowed by our own event at the club as 28 teams took to the course in an individual and team stableford event on Masters Sunday.

The leading score of the day in wet conditions was Kevin Tidman, who returned a fine score of 40 points to win an Under Armour sweater, shirt and cap combo. He was two clear of Kai Morgan with 38 points who won a pair of Ecco shoes with Ray Behan in 3rd place with 35 points winning a Hugo Boss polo shirt..

The team event was won by Kevin Tidman, John Flesher and Paul Lockstone, they were allocated Bubba Watsons final round score and they received FootJoy LPGC logo shirts. All unclaimed prizes are now in the Pro Shop.

In the Masters sweepstake, Mike Whysall was the lucky recipient of Patrick Reed, Mike has won a custom fit driver of his choice – well done Mike!

Pro-Am Scotland

On Easter Monday, myself, Peter Kilford, Alan Pestell and Andy Craig flew to St Andrews to play a three day Pro-Am over The Old Course, Kingsbarnes and St Andrews Castle course. We landed in Edinburgh in very unpleasant snow storm, which seemed to follow us all the way to St Andrews!

Our first round on Kingsbarnes was cold and windy day, but fortunately dry for 8 holes anyway, the weather turned and we played the last 10 in sideways rain and a 3 club wind, but we managed to hold on to a reasonable score to lay 5th in the gross and mid table in the nett, my 75 put me in 2nd spot.

Day two at The Old Course was unquestionably the coldest, wettest day I have ever spent on a golf course EVER! It lashed down from the first tee shot to the final putt, with the Old playing down wind going out and into on the way in, Alan Pestell had a caddyshack day, and couldn’t miss anything, which helped our score dramatically as we moved to 3rd in the gross and 5th in the nett, my score of 80 bizarrely kept me in 2nd spot!

Day 3 at The Castle course, when eventually the sun came out and gave some spectacular views, on a day when we dovetailed nicely and cemented our 2nd place in the gross, our nett score or +1 slipped us back to 8th and my 75 saw me finish 3rd.

All in all, even with the weather it was a fantastic trip, on some of the best courses in Scotland.

No penalty

Golf can be a frustrating game at the best of times, but incurring a penalty stroke when you’ve accidentally done something wrong seems very unfair, especially when that one stroke could be the difference between getting a handicap cut or not.

Current Rules
Under the current Rules of Golf, if you accidentally nudge your ball while addressing it you incur a one-stroke penalty and must replace it (18-2). The only exception relates to if it is accidentally moved in the process of marking it. In this case, it must be replaced and there is no penalty (20-1).

New Rules from 2019
The new proposed rule (13.1c) states there will no longer be a penalty for accidentally causing your ball to move on the green and you must replace it on its original spot.
