Good Afternoon,
Just as we thought we had seen the end of the summer, September gives us a week of shirtsleeves again, long may it continue. Only a couple of weeks to one of the greatest shows on grass - The Ryder Cup, one event I personally can not miss. Let's hope Captain McGinleys wild card picks of Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter and Stephen Gallagher prove to be good ones !
The Presidents Platter and Scratch Bowl
Last weekend saw 64 competitors battle it out over 36 holes for the Presidents platter and a scratch bowl. With the course in truly magnificent condition, the greens running quicker than they have been for a while, scoring was always going to be tough. So tough in fact that out of the morning scores, no player broke par, with Tom Jordan, Fraser and Ross Mackie sharing the lead for the platter with 69.
In the scratch bowl, Tom Jordan took a 3 shot lead with an opening 68 from brother Max and Fraser Mackie. The afternoon saw scores improve, Alan Pestell added a net 67 to his morning 73 for 140. He was then joined my Fraser Mackie, Max and Tom Jordan, but solid scoring from Juniors Declan Lennox and Alfie Hickman saw them tie for the lead on 139, only to be beaten late on by Dave Percival on count back. ( The lessons are working at last Dave!)
In the scratch bowl, Tom Jordan continued his consistent performance adding 70 to his morning 68 to beat brother Max (142) by 4 and Fraser Mackie (144) by 6.
Perman Shield
On Sunday, LPGC took on Sundridge Park in the Perman Shield, 4 foursome matches in the morning, 8 singles in the afternoon.
In the foursomes all 4 matches went to the 18th but unfortunately 3 out of the 4 went Sundridges way with only Tom & Max earning the home side 1/2 point, so the afternoon needed to be pretty spectacular.
Connor Byers led the charge with a 3&2 win, followed by Tom Jordan winning 4&3, then George Mullins 2&1, match 4 went to SPGC, but Mark Haffenden won his game on the 18th to square the tie at 4/12 - 41/2.
Unfortunately, matches 6&7 went to SPGC, so even with Stuart Williams winning the anchor game 3&2, the match went to SPGC 6 1/2 - 5 1/2.

17th Practice area
Some of you may have seen Alan Brooks taking lumps out of the practice area on the 17th fairway, once again looking for 'The Secret', so after a lesson on Friday he the proceeded to win the swindle on Saturday and shoot 2 consistent rounds of 72 for a top 10 finish in The Presidents Platter! I'm surprised Paul McGinley did make the call to you Alan !

The Spanish U18s strokeplay championship
Good luck to George Mullins this week who is representing England Boys at Hacienda del Alamo in the Nations Cup.
