Good afternoon all,
Slowly but surely the season is starting to come to an end, fortunately the weather for September so far has been fantastic, so it is not all doom and gloom and with the Ryder Cup only two weeks away it looks like being an exciting conclusion to an excellent season.
The Captain's Fours
Last Saturday saw a good field of 64 players compete in the popular Captains fours event, a mixed event with a Captain in each team, with the best 2 Stableford scores to count on all holes except the par 3's where all scores count.
The team of John Sowden, John Davison, Jackie Wellington and Lawrie Smith came top of the pile with an impressive 97 points, each winning a club logo sweater. Sharpie thought he would gate crash the photo as it's the only way he gets in the presentation party these days!
Ladies Stableford/Stevenson Trophy
A very close battle in this weeks event for the ladies, with Sue Williams and Kim Wildman tying on 37 points, closely followed by Priya Bhatia on 36 in Division 1, Sue taking top spot after a countback, in Division 2 Angela Darby came out on top with 36 points, just ahead of Catherine Loddo and Alexandra Johnson with 35 points.

The worst day of my life!
Having played several Captain/Pro matches this season, and so far our record has been been good, with only losing 2 matches, once with Geoff Speck and the other with Homi, so Alan Pestell and I were unbeaten, last Sunday we were due to play Andy Craig and Peter Kilford, obviously looking for revenge from the 5&3 drubbing they had received from Geoff and I earlier this year. Pete unfortunately had to pull out at the last minute and Andy brought in super sub Daz Field, this shouldn't have been too much of a problem as I had been teaching Daz and was fully aware of his capabilities!!
So off we went with Andy receiving 9 shots and Daz getting more shots than a gun fight in Afghanistan, I didn't realise people got more than one shot per hole?.... It soon became clear that I had underestimated my teaching abilities and had overnight turned Daz into a single figure golfer as he scored 21 points on the first 9 to be 1up, this increased to 2up after another 4 nett 3 on 10, we clawed one back at 12 before Andy's birdie nett eagle at 14 sent us back to 2down, halves at 15 and 16 and yet another 4 nett 3 from Daz at 17 saw the torture come to an end! 42 points and a horrible grin said it all!!
