Captain & Pro Challenge Bernie and I took on the challenge of Gary Tommy and James Needham in a very tough game with Gary receiving 11 shots and James 8. We were off to a fast start as my 3 at the first took us 1up but we quickly gave it back at the 3rd. Gary’s 5/4 was good enough at the 4th to take the lead only for my 3 at the 5th to square the match once again. A 4/3 at the 6th took them back into the lead, followed by a couple of halves until we all played our second shots into the 9th. Bernie hit a fine drive and iron shot onto the green for 2/1, James’s huge drive only left him a short pitch which he played superbly out of a horrible muddy lie and looked to have a good chance of a 3 until he realised he had played the wrong ball! So all square at the turn, halves at 10, and Bernie’s 3/2 at 11 saw us 1up across the road, but a whole load of shots were still to come. James made 4/3 at 12 to square the match as things started to swing in the oppositions favour with Gary making 4/3 at 15 to go 1 up. A halve at 16 and we were off the forward tee at 17, things didn’t look good! Somehow, I managed to hole my 3rd shot from off the green leaving Gary a tricky 5 footer to take a one up lead to the 18 which he duly made. This was his last contribution as he then visited the lake on 18, leaving his partner to it. James came up short of the green, Bernie hit the back of the green and 2 putted for par, James left his putt 8 feet short and my birdie putt finished just short. Fortunately for us, James’s par putt slipped by and we won the last to square the match. Thanks gents for a really good match!
