It’s good to see the season is fully underway, I’m sure with a little warmer weather it won’t be long before we are all complaining it’s too hot! Enjoy this week's read. |
The Goodhart Cup One of the club’s oldest competitions took place last weekend. It was a very cold and blustery day, not ideal for a low scoring event but ideal for those who can keep the ball in play, and chip and putt well, or so you would think… As the morning scores started to filter in, John Davison was the early pace setter with nett 73 and it soon became apparent that the scoring was going to be high as conditions were getting worse. Then one of those things happened, almost miracle like, I checked the leader board to see that not only had John Davison been overtaken, the new clubhouse leader was Mark Pulford with nett 71 and in that score was a quadruple 7 at the 13th! The wind picked up and the temperature dropped, Peter Kilford and Stuart Williams both came close with nett 72, Sam Giacopazzi and James Doswell equalled Marks score of nett 71 but even with his 7, Mark (now nicknamed Mr Goodhart) won the trophy on countback. |

Ladies Stoke and Lonnen Qualifier
33 ladies tee’d up on Tuesday and with the weather still a little on the chilly side, the scoring would still be tough. Sharon Jagger didn’t think so as her nett 72 took the top spot, she beat Sarah Miller into second place who scored nett 75, with Kim Wildman a further shot back on nett 76.
Congratulations to Sharon, who reduced her handicap by two shots to 23 and to Sarah, who’s handicap is now down 5.5 - only 0.1 to go!!

Captain/Pro Match Bernie and I took on Stuart Cullum and Richard Carter on Sunday. With Stuart receiving 11 and Richard 10 shots, this would be an interesting game.
We were put on the back foot straight away as Stuart’s 4/3 won the first, Richards 4/3 at the 4th doubled their lead and another 3 from Stuart at the 5th took them 3up and we were in all sorts of trouble. Another 4/3 from Richard at the 7th and we were 4 down, and we looked to be going 5 down until Bernie holed a monster putt on the 8th for a 4/3, only to see Richard make his 4th nett birdie in the first 8 holes for a half.
A rare win at the 9th saw us 3 down at the turn, halves then at 10, 11 and 12 and a sneaky win at 13 gave us ‘hope’. Not for long though as a 5/4 from Stuart at 14 and 15 and ‘another’ nett birdie from Richard at 16 saw the match end in a 4+2 victory.

Vets Spring Meeting The Vets kicked off their season with the annual curtain raiser. A large field of 75 players turned out for The Spring Meeting.
A fine score of 38 points from Charles Harker saw him take the spoils, he pipped Will Evans by one point, with Ed Synot in third place scoring 36 and Brian Smith a further point back on 35.
This year, the player with the lowest gross score of the day qualified to play with me in The PGA Staysure Trophy. The regional event is at Foxhills and the Grand Final is to be held at The London Club at the end of July.
Lucky me, John Newton had the lowest gross score of the day and has qualified to play, so I have already started to prepare myself!!

Ending next week! If you haven't already taken advantage of our Battery Trade-In, you don't have long left to do so. If your electric trolley battery is struggling to complete 18 holes or is not charging quite how it used to, consider upgrading to Lithium in 2019. Alternatively, if you don't know whether yours needs replacing, bring it in-store and we'll check it out for you. |

Be honest, how much thought do you put into the golf ball that you play? Probably not as much you do your clubs but considering the ball is in play on every single shot, using any old thing that you find at the bottom of your bag could be leaving you paddling uphill. |
| Which Titleist ball to play? |
|
The first question to ask is: What do you want from your ball? Obviously, getting the thing in the hole in as few shots as possible is the ultimate goal, but there are many paths to getting there. There are balls that offer impressive distance, such as the Titleist Velocity, whilst others that provide incredible feel, such as DT TruSoft. But if you are looking for total performance without sacrificing on any one element, Titleist's Pro V1, Pro V1x and AVX balls are truly phenomenal. With subtle differences between each, this is where having a chat with a member of our PGA qualified team will have you leaving with the best ball for your game - what will yours be? |
