The Founders Cup and Club Shield The Founders Cup and Club Shield took place last weekend, played over both days, with the top 60 players qualifying for Sundays second round.
After round one, Simon Mason led the Shield with a nett 66, he was closely followed by last minute Patrick McCoy who arrived two minutes before his tee time and would still be snoring if it hadn’t been for a phone call! Ross Mackie and Phil Mcbrown followed with a further shot back on nett 68.
In the Shield, The form horse Stuart Williams continued to impress. With a clubhouse lead of 71, he was joined by Ross Mackie, with Mark Haffenden lurking a further shot back on 72.
Round two saw the players tee off in score order with the leaders going out last, but the score of the day came from one of the early starters as Jack Stanley, who shot nett 73 on day 1, followed by a fantastic 70 nett 65 to set a very tough target. Not long after, Sam Kemp shot 79 nett 66 to join Jack on nett 138, Scott Katterhorn returned nett 67 to fall one shot shy with nett 139. None of the overnight leaders were able to match Jack and Sam’s scores, so Jack took the Founders Cup, beating Sam on countback.
In the Shield, Stuart could only add a 75 to his 71, Ross added 77 to his 71, Jack Stanley had now jumped into a share of second place with 148 and they were also joined by Alfie Hickman and Conor Byers also with 148. This just left Mark Haffenden, who’s steady score of 71, to add to his first round score of 72 saw him the clear winner with a 143 total.
