September Stroke A total of 120 players turned out for the September Stroke, and early morning starter Gary Whitfield posted a score which wouldn’t be beat all day. After an incredible 7, 6 start, he managed to reach the turn in 42 strokes. But a back nine of 33 saw him round in 75, nett 63, and rightly cut to 10.
Paul Lockstone finished in runners up position in Division One with a fine nett 67, one ahead of the inform Richard Truelove in third place. Division Two saw Mike Barratt the runaway winner with nett 65, which reduced his handicap by three to 17 (not before time), he was six clear of Dave Paterson and Gary Pestill on nett 71. |
Captain & Pro Captain Bernie's term is coming to an end, and we have had some fantastic matches. We are getting down to the final few games and last Sunday we played in the Club vs The Newbies match and took on Jonathon Nicholls and Newbies Captain George Rogers. Shots a plenty in this game, with my partner receiving 18, Jonathon 16 and George 15. We snuck into an early lead with a win at the second, only quickly cancelled out by Jonny’s 4/3 at the third. A loss at the fourth saw us one down, which we clung on to for the next few holes before going two down at the eighth. Fortunately, we were entering Bernie's corner. A 4/3 from Bernie at nine clawed one back, halves at 10 and 11 saw us across the road 1 down. Further halves at 12 and 13 before my 4 at 14 levelled the game. Bernie’s nett 3 at 16 put our noses ahead for the first time, and my 4 at 17 was good enough to close the match out. A great day was had all round, and the match ended in a resounding win for the club! |
