Five in a row
Apologies for last week, I managed to omit the scores from the competitions, so bear with me as this may be a little longer than usual. First of all, I will start off with something a little different, ITV have been showing a drama this week called Honour, and one of the main characters is Detective Andy Craig. It's a two part drama based on a case when Andy was a detective, and was clearly slimmer and better looking back then...for those of you who missed it, im sure it is available on ITV hub. |
There is a host of competitions to report, i'll start with the September Stroke, this was played on Saturday, 19th September. In Division One, Kevin Walder led for a long time with his seasons best nett 68 only to be pipped by Dominic d'Inverno with his own PB of nett 65. Mark Smith continued his good form by winning Division Two on countback with a nett 68. The Crowther Cup took place at the weekend, in the bogey format against the course, some great scores were returned, especially by Mark Smith, who this week went one better to take the trophy with +6 and reduce his handicap down to 21. He beat Danny Rowe by one shot with Ross Mackie a further three strokes behind. Congratulations to Ross who has now played under his handicap for the the last five medal rounds in a row and has reduced his handicap to one. There was also more celebrations on Sunday as Malcolm Watson scored his first ever 'hole in one' on the 13th, his 6 iron landed 12" short of the cup and rolled in. If you were at the club on Sunday, you would have no doubt heard about it... |

Captain/Pro
Dave and I played our last Captain/Pro match last week against Bernie De Souza and Andy Craig, a very tight match took place which looked to be very one sided as we won the first two holes, but they (well, Andy) quickly recovered and the match went right down to the final green where Dave and I managed to hang on to a 1UP victory. We have had a great year, with some very close and entertaining matches and even a dreadful winter and Covid getting in the way of a good summer, we managed to play quite a few matches and only lose one, which was to Peter Killick and Richard Truelove, many thanks to Dave, it was great fun. Incoming Captain, Brian Smith drives in this Sunday at about 1.30pm, the sheet to guess his driving distance is now in the shop. Anyone who wishes to Challenge Brian and I in Captain Pro or Vice Captain Richard Truelove and Tom or Terry, dates up to December are available in the shop. |
The big guns return It’s been a strange year for the European Tour so far. Cancelled events, rescheduled tournaments and even new tournaments created. The pandemic hit the Tour hard and with relatively modest prize money on offer in the past few months, many of Europe’s biggest names have been Stateside. This week will be different, though. The likes of Tommy Fleetwood, Matthew Fitzpatrick and Ian Poulter will return for the Scottish Open following the conclusion of the big-money FedEx Cup and the U.S. Open. It should be an exciting week of top-quality golf in East Lothian. We can’t wait! If watching these big names on TV over the next few days has you purring at the prospect of playing better golf, send us a message and we'll get back to you in the coming days.
