Good afternoon all,
I hope you've been getting the opportunity to make the most of the good weather, it almost feels spring like, I'm sure it's guaranteed to rain now!
Those of you who follow the European Tour of will have noticed rookie Matt Ford finish second last week in The Africa Open. Matt is a Kent lad, from Maidstone, who will have played many times at Langley in Pro Ams in the past so it's great to see him doing so well, fingers crossed he pushes on to a successful season.
The Sunningdale foursomes was also played this week, and I was hoping to report on a successful week as both myself and George Mullins were playing. I partnered Chris Gane, an old friend of mine from European Tour days and George was playing with Michael Saunders as they made it to the semi finals last year.
Chris and I were drawn on the New Course in the 1st round against former PGA/ET player Jon Robson and Shaun Mills, we had a great close game, but 2 bogies 15 pars and only 1 birdie saw us lose 1 down. George and Michael faired a little better, winning their first match 2&1 and 2nd 4&3 but losing in the 3rd round by the same margin. Still it was a great few days and certainly a course I never get tired of playing.
Mail on Sunday
The inter club matches have also now started, with Langley being drawn at home to Broke Hill in the Mail on Sunday. This is a five match singles event in which Langley won comfortably with Andy Wells, Barry Nicholson, Andy Dickson and John Cakebread all recording wins.
March Stableford
A big turnout for the March Stableford, and although the course is starting to dry out nicely it was still playing brutally long and tough, this showed as CSS went up 2 to 73!
Division 1
- Chris Gimson 36 Points
- Steve Butler 35 points
- Richard Carter 34 points
Division 2
- Paul Malangone 38 points
- Dave Ellis 35 points
- David Ahmad 34 points
Alan and I took on the pairing of John Cranstoun and Peter Halligan last Sunday, with more shots flying around than a gun fight in the Wild West, this match could go either way! Fortunately we were fast of the mark, winning 3 out of the first 4, but John made nett birdies at 5 & 6 and a narrowly missing a third at 7 pulled the match back to 1up.
We managed to win the next 2 and turn in 3up which we held until winning the 15th for a 4&3 win.
It was only when we returned to the bar that Peter explained his baking skills and presented us both with one of his home made cakes pictured. If that happens every week, Alan and I will be several stones heavier come the end of the season!
