Good Afternoon
I am reliably informed that the golf season is officially underway at LPGC as we played the first 'major' event of the year last weekend in The Red Cross Cup, as expected a large field competed in the first strokeplay event of the season. The course is still playing very long, despite the recent dry spell, and with the White tees back on the tombstones it made for a tough day on the links for many players.
The leading score of the day was Club Captain Alan Pestell, who after emergency swing surgery one evening last week returned a fantastic score of nett 67 playing off 7 handicap, and has now been reduced to 5.7, his lowest ever handicap. He has however been warned not to do this again as if he gets cut to 5, he gets one less shot in our Captain/Pro matches! He was closely followed by Ian Jordan with a nett 69 and Andy Marsh with nett 71, the competition standard scratch score was increased to 73 proving how tough the day was. 7 players recorded a '2' which was worth £26.85 and has been added to your Pro Shop accounts.
Kent Foursomes
Langley Park played their first round of the Kent Foursomes knockout competition last Saturday against my old club Ashford. The event is Matchplay, foursomes, with 2 pairs from each club playing the match over 18 holes, so even if the match is over 4&3 you keep playing til the 18th so the final score could be 7up or 1up.
LPGC fielded a strong side of Mark Haffenden (scr), Steve Butler (2), Kent Osborn (2), John Cakebread (2) against an Ashford team all playing off 3 handicaps. Kent and John went out in the first match and were quick off the mark winning 1,2 & 4, whilst in the group behind with Steve and Mark the opposite occurred with them losing 1,2 & 4. This was how the match went for a few holes with either match gaining or losing a hole and at the turn LPGC were 4 up and 2 down, it stayed like this for a while and standing on 16 Kent and John were 4up, and Mark and Steve 2 down playing 15. Kent and John lost 16 to a birdie despite Kent's efforts for a half with a chip in for par, they then scraped an amazing half on 17 with Ashford being on the green in 2 and Langley sitting somewhere near the 18th tee in 2, Ashford 3 putted and Langley holed a great 6ft putt for a half, but behind it was looking worse, again, Ashford were on the green in 2 and Langley were in the middle of the 12th fairway for 3!! Steve managed a great shot over the greens to 20 feet and Mark holed for a hopeful half, Ashford again 3 putted. As this was happening, John had a 4 foot putt to seal the match and a 4 up win which he narrowly missed so match one finished 3up. In match 2, if Ashford could win the last a playoff would take place, fortunately this wasn't the case, a steady shot to the centre of the green from Steve saw Langley win the 18th and lose match two 1 down, but ensureng an overall victory of 2up. Well done boys, can we have a slightly less stressful match next time please...
Out of Bounds
The Golf committee has agreed that the area to the right of the 11th, which is used by the green keepers as storage will now be deemed as out of bounds. You can see the area has clearly been marked by white posts and normal OOB rules apply.
Trolley Ropes
During our course inspection this week we came across this:
Just a gentle reminder that the roped off areas are there to protect the greens and their surrounds at this time of year, so where possible if you could please adhere to these I'm sure we will all benefit in the coming months.
We have contacted the local CID and forensic DNA evidence has been taken...
