Good afternoon everyone.
A very busy week at the club, with the May Stroke/EGU Gold Medal Qualifier, Bank Holiday Roll up and finishing with the Captain's Charity Day on Bank Holiday Monday made for an excellent week all round.
With the wind still very strong, coupled with several showers, on course conditions were still as tricky as ever and made the course testing even to the hardiest of golfers.
In the May Stroke, Les Clarke took the top honours with a fine nett 68 to pip the in-form Alfie Hickman by one shot, closely followed by Peter Battle, Simon Hurry, Mark Haffenden and Max Jordan all on nett 71. Les now goes forward to represent Langley Park in the final at Frilford Heath.
Sunday saw the bank Holiday roll up take place, Phil Littlewood finished in pole position with 37 points, 2 ahead of Kent Osborn and 3 ahead of Mark Gardner, we are putting Phil's victory down to his new practice routine of wearing a bow tie!
Ladies Stableford
A very windy day for this week's Ladies Stableford which was reflected in the scoring, except for one... Evelyn Collington had obviously got the hang of the fast greens from the week before and won Division One by 12, yes 12 points with a score of 40 points! Followed by Lesley Compton 28 points and Priya Bhatia 27 points. Evelyn put her success down to playing 12 times in the last week, proving practice does make perfect and has now reduced her handicap from 12 to 10.
Over 150 members and guest played in The Captain's Charity day in aid of Leukaemia Research, the format was teams of four stableford and also an individual stableford event, leading the way in the individual was Josie Gray with a very impressive 41 points, team winners on 99 points were David Ahmed, Paul Goodliffe, Paul Sawyers and Ray Behan.
This was followed by an auction which everyone who placed bids did so very generously, at the end of the day the total amount raised was a fantastic £15,000! Well done to everyone who contributed to the day, it was a great success.
