Good afternoon all,
Another scorching week, fortunately with a few showers along the way to keep some colour to the course, but some really good comments from members playing in the Medal Winners Bowl last week and many visiting golfers.
The Open Championship will very shortly be upon us, those of you who participated in the sweepstake last year, fill your forms in quickly, they are available behind the bar, remember winner or winners take all, last year one winner took the £2600 prize so study the field and get your form back to Ben before Wednesday 15th July.
Medal Winners Bowl
Last Sunday saw the 36 hole medal winner's bowl, a slightly smaller field than usual competed, the heat putting a lot of people off.
At the half way stage, Barry Byers led the way with nett 68, followed closely by Kanti Shah on 69, with Mark Allen in 3rd with 71, in the afternoon, the 36 holes was taking its toll for most of the field and Barry Byers was in a very commanding position with only a few holes to play, unfortunately a finish that the England cricket side would have been proud of saw his lead slip, and Kanti very calmly held his nerve for a nett 75 totalling 144 to win by 3 from Barry and 5 from Garry Williamson, who in the afternoon recorded a 71 which included his first ever hole in one with a 6 iron at the 13th with his newly purchased Callaway XR irons, congratulations Garry.
Lombard Pro Am
I played at Walton Heath on Wednesday with Alberto Landi in the Lombard Pro Am, the winners of this event play in the Grand Final at Gleneagles later on in the season, and Alberto qualified to play by winning the April Stroke.
We were drawn on the Old Course at 12.30 and we're off to a fantastic start, with Alberto making 3/2 at 1 and 4/3 at 2, we should have made it 3 in a row after I drove the 3rd but then managed to 3 putt, anyway another birdie at the par 5 8th saw us turn in -3 (32) so a good back 9 was needed, from experience -7 or -8 is usually a good target and we stood on the 14th -4 with 2 par 5's and 3 stroke holes left so it was still a possibility, we both made bogey at the reachable 14th which deflated us both, birdies at 15 and 16 and a dropped shot at the last saw us finish with -4 and a share for 9th place, Wildernesse were the winners on the day with a great -9.
