Good afternoon all
For all those of you who are looking for me this week, I shall mostly be found in front of the TV watching The Open! Round one is already under way, and the calm conditions are certainly being reflected by the scoring, let's hope a bit of wind picks up just to make things interesting!
No competition results to report on from last weekend, although still a busy week....
The ladies were in action The Ruth Jones Trophy, with some fantastic score being recorded, in Division 1, Barbara Malongone led the way with 38 points, closely followed by Kim Wildman 37 points and Josee Gray 36 points, in Division 2, Sue Tester scored a fantastic 42 points and has now reduced her handicap to 30, she narrowly beat Angela Darby with 41 and Carol Helm 36.
Captain/Pro Alan and I took on Chris Gimson and Steve Sharpe last weekend, Sharpie had told us to expect a rough ride, so we were fully prepared! We were off to a good start and were quickly 2up, things soon started to go in the wrong direction as we crossed the road 1down. As you can imagine, a certain member of the opposition was becoming more vocal by the second. Alan decided an injection of Pimms was required, this worked like spinach to Popeye, and we quickly won 2 of the next 3 holes to stand on 15 1up, a halve at 15 and a birdie at 16 saw us dormie 2, Chris rallied with a 4/3 at 17 but we shook hands on the 18th 1up victors!
The Pro-am season in now in full swing, and July has been a busy month for me in playing a few, last Friday I played at The Addington with Ian Betts, Ian Baker, and Mark Pulford, a course I always think is tough to score on, we managed 80 Stableford points as a team which finished in a tie for 12th, with 85 leading the way, I managed 68 (-1) which was good enough to take the Professionals Individual, tied with 2 other Professionals, all in all a good day out!
This week I played at Bearwood Lakes, in Berkshire with
Alan Pestell,
Garry Appleford, and
Henry Semmance. For those of you who have never played it, it is certainly well worth the trip, personally, one of the finest courses in the South East. As a team we managed 74 points and a share of 29th place. I somehow managed to shoot 72 (level) which finished 14th. If anyone finds my swing over the next week or so, can you kindly return it!
The Elk Open
This weekend sees a change to the diary. As most of you know the England v Rest of the world match has been postponed and there is now an open fourball betterball event on Saturday. This is available to EVERYONE, there are still times available, although the sheet is filling up fast. Get your names down quickly as this looks like it will be a great day with lots of prizes and on course events.
That's all for this week.
