Another week of exciting golf passes by, with the Open Championship coming to an exciting finale on Monday for only the second time in the Championships history, with the weather at St Andrews fairly benign the scoring was exceptional, as the leaders entered the back nine there was more than 20 players within 6 shots of the lead, which I though made for great viewing.
Zach Johnson wasn't my preferred winner but at the end of the day he hit less times than anyone else so he is the Champion, and he certainly can putt!!
Last weekend was a busy one for the club with The Elk Open being played on Saturday, a fantastic turn out at very short notice saw over 100 players playing fourball better ball Stableford, with an added twist of both scores counting on the par 3's.
1st - Debbie Pestell & Brian Pestell (Alan's Dad) 54 points winning A PING Golf Bag
2nd - David Shurmer & Guest 53 points winning FootJoy AWD shoes
3rd - George and Alex Johnson 52 Points winning Club Logo shirts (countback) Rory and Ollie Lennox 52 Points.
This was followed by a great BBQ and an auction which was very generously supported, although total figures are yet to be confirmed, with entry fees, beat the pro, and the auction we have hopefully raised in excess of 15K.
The Millennium Bowl was played on Sunday, this in an event for all competition winners from the previous year, results as follows:
Phil McBrown 77 8 69
Steve Butler 72 2 70
John Cakebread 75 3 72
Kent Scratch Foursomes
Langley were drawn away with a very tough game at Knole Park, George Mullins and Mark Haffenden were out in the first match against D Curtis and T Curtis. A very close game with George and Mark winning 1up, Max and Tom Jordan played in match 2 against the formidable pair of Ken Will and Adam Tilman, again a very close game going the distance with Langley winning 2up.
Vets league
Following their fine 5-1 home win against West Kent last week, the Langley Park Vets team were away to Royal Blackheath, after the first 3 matches went the way of the home team, things were not looking good for LPGC, fortunately the back 3 matches were in good form and managed to secure a half. So far the team has played 6, won 4, halved 1, lost 1, with 4 matches to go, the team are in a strong position.
The list is up on the board for my Pro's Day, which is on Saturday 1st August, morning and afternoon tee times are still available, open to both Men and Ladies, individual stableford, with nearest the pin, longest drive, plus a few on course surprises.
The prize giving will be later on that evening at approx. 7pm with a BBQ, from mid-afternoon which will be available to everyone, please can you put your name on the list on the board so we have rough numbers for food.
