Good Afternoon
I hope you are in a dry place as it hasn't stopped raining for most of the day, although I did see the greenkeepers doing a rain dance this morning so maybe that's why!! The US PGA Championship gets under way tonight, and Rory is now playing and is drawn with Spieth so things should be interesting, especially on a course that looks like it has more sand than grass!!
Lots to report this week at the club, firstly the mid-week stroke which was played on the 6th August, a large field competed and leading the way with a fantastic nett 65 was Mick Joslyn. He narrowly won by one shot from Nathan Brown, who shot 70 nett 66 playing off 4.
Last Sunday saw The August Stroke contested, and the scoring was quite exceptional with 14 players shooting nett 69 or better! Clearly coming into a fine streak of form is Nathan Brown, as he returned a tremendous 66 nett 62 to beat Andy Marsh (who also has been shooting some scores lately) by one as Andy shot 74 nett 63, with Chris Gimson in 3rd place 71 nett 64. In division 2 Ray Behan and Paul Goodliffe shared the honours, both scoring nett 68 with Ray winning on countback.
LPGC hosted Sundridge Park last weekend in the scratch League, and with several players in top form, the match should have been a close one, Nathan Brown/Alfie Hickman won the first match 4&3, Fraser Mackie/Connor Byers halved match 2, Ross Mackie/Ben Church cruised to victory in match 3 winning 5&3, George Mullins/Kent Osborne comfortably won 3&2, and Max and Tom Jordan sealed a resounding 4 1/2 -1/2 victory with a 5&3 win in the anchor match.
For those of you who support the scratch matches, LPGC are at home this weekend in the Perman Shield V Mid Kent AM & PM matches, and we are also in the semi-final of the Kent Foursomes which will be away at Lamberhurst on Saturday 22nd August at 1pm. come along and cheer the boys on.
The ladies were out in force on Tuesday for their August Medal, and leading the way in Division one was Jane Underwood who returned a very good nett 68 to win by 5 from Lady Captain Manulita Landi on nett 73 closely followed by Lesley Compton in 3rd place with nett 74. In division 2, Sharon Jagger kept up her good run of form shooting nett 71 to hold off Ros Cox on countback also nett 71 with Sue Dawbarn in 3rd with nett 72.
The Juniors also played their August Stroke/Stableford, Zach Collins took top spot in the stroke with nett 65, 7 shots clear of 2nd placed Ed Soars and Jack O Hare, in the stableford, Newly joined Mustafa Hussan led the way with 39 points, 2 clear of Amy Tree with 37 points.
After a few weeks of very average results and walking along the left side of the golf course, my swing finally reappeared just in time (after some fine tuning from Dad!) as I played in The Ashford Pro Am on Tuesday, hitting every fairway and every green to shot 67 (-4) to tie for 1st place with Peter Appleyard - Redlibbits and Steve Green - Micro Golf.
