Good afternoon all
The first week of early evenings is upon us, dark at 5pm is quite depressing! Fortunately the days are still warmer than the average for this time of year and as Chris Toop will still testify the grass is growing much more than it should be at this time of year and along with the leaves just starting to fall is more than enough to keep the maintenance team busy!
Not much to report on the competition front, although Pete and I started our Captain/Pro campaign against Bernie De Souza and Dave Patterson. It was quite a shock to learn that Dave played off 26 and was about to receive 21 shots and Bernie off 17 receiving 13, this could all go horribly wrong.........
Pete and I struggled to find our rhythm on the front nine, mainly due to the brandy Bernie kept trying to feed us and the shock that Dave was getting 2 shots on the 3rd,7th and 12th and could hit it as far as me ! We turned in 1 down, a birdie from Pete at 10 and me at 11 saw us cross the road 1up, a birdie from me at 13 and nett birdie from Pete at 14 suddenly saw us 3up and breathing again, halve at 15 and a 3 from me at 16 saw us shake hands for a 4&2 victory. Bernie, your waterproof suit is gift wrapped and waiting for you.......
Wildernesse Pro Am
I played in the final Pro Am fixture of the season on Friday at Wildernesse, with Ian Betts, Ian Baker and Steve Sharpe, who would have thought earplugs would be found in a golf pro's golf bag..... It was a shotgun start, and we were drawn on the 16th, always best to get the hard holes out of the way early! But we were off to a fine start with nett birdies from Sharpie at 16 and 17, and birdies from me and Ian Baker at 18, we walked off to the 1st -3 and in good shape, things went a little pear shaped for a while, Mr Betts joined us in the 5th with a nett 2 but things didn't progress as we might have liked, eventually we finished -4 in a share of 19th place, in the Professional event after my bogey bogey start, things improved, and managed to play the next 16 holes in -5 to shoot 69 -3 to finish tied 3rd.
All in all a good year in the County and South Region, finishing 9th in Kent and 17th on the South Region money list with 4 wins, 1 runners up and 4 3rd place finishes. Many thanks to all the members who have supported the Pro Ams is year, as soon as the dates are released for 2016 I will let you all know, so hopefully those of you who fancy a day out next year can get the date in your diary early.
