Good Afternoon all
As we move into November, it would usually signify cold frosty mornings, but bizarrely it's still abnormally warm, so much so, there were some out in T Shirts still this week, long may it last!
Last week also saw the conclusion of the European Tour for 2015, with only the Race to Dubai Tour Championship and the Tour school left to be played before it all starts again for 2016, which oddly begins in South Africa on November 26th, 2015, no time off for the boys on the tour!
I'm not usually one for stats, but I read a very interesting one courtesy of Dan, my EMP campaign manager at Foremost... In 2000 there was only one golfer who's average driving distance was over 300 yards and that was John Daly with 301.4 in 2015 there are now 83 players with the longest averaging 334.1, think about that for a moment, that's the length of the 11th hole..... So on that basis you would assume the average score would be far lower, strangely, Tiger led the Stoke average back in 2000 with 67.79 compared to Adam Scott today with 68.13, maybe it's not all about length after all, if we were all better from 70 yards in, our scores would all be better, I know mine certainly would be......
Last weekend saw the fog delayed November Stableford played, as the first few groups teed off, the visibility became less and less, play was soon suspended as it was reported that the group of John Sowden, John Newton and George Perry had all hit their tee shots out of sight, it must have been foggy! Eventually play resumed, and with the course playing a tough as it has all year, the leading scorer in Division 1 was 34 points score by Barry Nicholson and Garry Tommy, with Garry winning on count back, Keith Stacey led the way in Division 2 also with 34 points one clear of John Harrison.
Those of you who scored a '2' have had £26 added to your accounts.
The ladies played their November Stableford this week, with the ladies obviously not finding the conditions as hard as the men, Josee Gray took top honours with 37 points reducing her handicap to 17.4 with and exceptional score reduction, she was 3 clear if Julia Price on 35 and Tereza Russo on 34, in division 2, Kim Shead narrowly led the way with 31, one clear of Sue Dawbarn and Lady Captain Maddie Simmons.
